National and international journals such as Precambrian Research, Tectonophysics, Lithosphere, Island Arc, Geological Society London, International Geology Review, Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, Geochemical Journal, Journal of Geological Society of India and Current Science have published Prof Mondal’s works related to geochemical and geochronological studies of the Bundelkhand Craton, Bastar Craton and Aravalli Craton.

Professor Mondal geo Science Award

Prof Mondal has proposed that Bundelkhand and Aravalli cratons were part of Archaean Ur supercontinent and that the gneisses of the Bundelkhand craton represent two distinct TTG magmatism. He also proposed that the Bundelkhand granitoids have been formed by subduction processes.

Prof Mondal was the first to report the sanukitoid magmatism occurrence from the Aravalli craton and that there was a shift from slab dominated melting in the Archaean to mantle-wedge dominated melting in the Paleoproterozoic.

He has carried out geochemical studies of clastic rocks with a view to constraining the provenance, crustal evolution and paleo weathering conditions of the Proterozoic basins in Bastar craton and Gangetic plains. Prof Mondal has been involved in studies which revealed that Siwalik sediments preserve the parental and tectonic signatures.

He is currently working on the geochemical studies of the volcano-sedimentary sequences of greenstone belts of Sonakhan (Bastar Craton) and Aravalli craton besides other areas and has come up with a unique proposal of searching oceanic component and evaluating the basalts of greenstone while working on Archaean greenstone belts.
