AMU inaugurates ‘Centre of Excellence on Translational Research on Bioinspired Nanomaterials and Drugs from Endophytes’

26 May 2018

Aligarh, May 25: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor inaugurated the ‘Centre of Excellence on Translational Research on Bioinspired Nanomaterials and Drugs from Endophytes’ at the University’s Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre (INC), which will act as a nodal-lab to carry out the meticulous task of mass fabrication of bio-inspired nanomaterials, bio-nanoconjugates and complete characterization.

Established with a substantial grant of Rs four crores from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the five-year project of the Centre has Professor Absar Ahmad (Director, INC) as the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator.

On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that investing in nanotechnology will not only further raise the bar of research and academic standards of the University, but it will also add to AMU’s glory all over the world.

He congratulated Prof Absar Ahmad for grant and motivated the faculty and students at INC to stay inspired and driven.

Prof Mansoor assured support to INC and urged various AMU faculties to explore collaborative possibilities with the emerging science of nanotechnology. He further said, “We are proud that in the first five years of its establishment, INC has managed to get this grant and has also applied for other grants.”

The Vice Chancellor also said that INC has achieved big targets such as getting the M Tech (Nanotechnology) accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), starting PhD programmes and conducting impeccable research and development activities.

Praising Prof Absar Ahmad for his contributions, Prof B H Khan (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology) pointed out that former Indian President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam always believed that the future lies in nanotechnology. He added that all innovations are now focussed on nano-concepts.

Prof Absar Ahmad thanked the Vice Chancellor for his continuous support. He added, Prof Mansoor’s tenure has brought excellent infrastructure initiatives, industrial collaborations, huge research grants, new recognition and rankings.

“An excellent team of trained manpower will be generated during the course of this project with new patents and publications,” said Prof Absar adding that it is great to be a part of this collective drive of the University towards global academic leadership.

Faculty members, students and other staff of various departments and faculties attended the function.
