The biggest misconception among students and their parents in India is that you cannot get any good or high paying jobs without a university or college degree. This couldn’t be further from the truth. There are many opportunities in various sectors where you can get a job after getting a diploma in that field. Fashion designing, real estate and modelling are just some of the examples.

Here are the various high paying jobs that you can get without a graduation degree:

1. Commercial Pilot

The eligibility requirement for becoming a commercial pilot is to have completed 10+2 in the science stream. You can register at a flying club recognized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and get a Student Pilot License (SPL). Once that is done, you can go for Commercial Pilot Training (CPL). You will have to clear the entrance exam and pass the interview to get admission. After you get your CPL, you will need certain hours of flying experience to get a job as a commercial pilot.

The average salary of a commercial pilot is 6 lakhs per annum.

2. Fashion/Interior Designing

These days a lot of students are opting for a diploma course in designing. You can opt for the course straight out of high school. A creative bent of mind and the ability to understand the needs of your future clients will take you far in this field. Also, your career prospects will be better if you get your diploma from a renowned institution like the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi (NIFT).

The average salary of a fashion/interior designer is 4 lakhs per annum.

3. Modelling

Modelling

A career in modelling is all about how good you look, the level of confidence you have, and how you carry yourself. You can obtain a diploma in modelling if you want to pursue it seriously, but it is not absolutely required. It is possible to get a job in modelling without a diploma or experience simply by regularly going to auditions. It is a highly competitive field, but the rewards are great if you become successful.

The average salary of a model is 6 lakhs per annum.

4. Makeup Artist

Makeup Artist

Formal education is not necessary to become a makeup artist. However, many institutes offer diploma/certificate courses that will provide you with formal training and an advantage over your competition when you apply for a job. Javed Habib Academy and Lakme Academy are two such institutions where you can get formal training that will help launch your career as a makeup artist.

The average salary of a makeup artist is 3 lakhs per annum.

5. Real Estate Agent

The minimum age for becoming a real estate agent varies between 18-19 years across the various states. You will have to complete the required pre-license education hours, after which you can attempt the real estate license examination of your state. Networking and socializing skills are fundamental in this field. Knowledge of the internet will also be a huge help.

The average salary of a real estate agent is 3 lakhs per annum.

6. Cabin Crew Member

Cabin Crew Member

The job of a cabin crew member includes welcoming the passengers on board, helping them locate their seats, informing them about the different safety procedures, etc. Many institutions in India offer diploma courses in the field of Aviation. Some airlines also provide training for 3-6 months.

The average salary of a cabin crew member is 4 lakhs per annum.

7. Photographer

You can obtain a diploma/certificate in Photography after finishing 10+2. After that, you might have to intern for a few months to get proper training in the field. Once that is done, you can work as a freelance photographer or take up a staff job in some newspaper or company. Pay gets better with experience and the production of high-quality work.

8. Radio/Video Jockey

High school education is enough to get a job as a radio/video jockey. You will need to have an outgoing personality and an ability to entertain an audience. Self-confidence is a must, and being witty is a bonus. A melodious voice could definitely get you a radio jockey job if you know how to modulate it as well properly. Even though the salary, in the beginning, might be low, it will increase as you gain experience and exposure.

The average salary of a radio/video jockey is 2 lakhs per annum.

9. Ethical Hacker

You don’t even have to finish 10+2 for pursuing this career. You can enrol in a course on ethical hacking right after your class 10 examinations. This will get you a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification. This is the perfect field for you if you are interested in coding and the world of the internet. The average salary of an ethical hacker is 5 lakhs per annum.
