The AMU Students’ Union for 2011-12 was elected in December 2011, with Syed Sharique Ahmad as President, Abdul Quadir Jilani as Vice-President and Hamad Nabi as Honorary Secretary. It was the second AMUSU election held in 2011, after the January poll for the 2010-11 union.

The 2011 election
Polling was held on a Saturday in December 2011, and results were confirmed on 11 December. Chief Election Officer Prof. Mahmood S. Khan announced the results. Vice-Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis congratulated all candidates for a peaceful poll held under the Lyngdoh Committee rules. Vote counts were not published in the reports we found.

The next union, for 2012-13, was led by Shahzad Alam, who was expelled by the university in May 2013.

- 4 December 2011: A Grievance Redressal Committee allowed Abdul Quadir Jilani to contest after a procedural lapse, and Prof. Mahmood S. Khan became Chief Election Officer. (AMU news compilation)
