What is the Aligarian Network?
Aligs have always looked out for each other, whether it is a senior helping a fresher find a hostel room or an alumnus in Dubai picking up a call from a new graduate. The Aligarian Network puts that habit in one place online. It brings together former and current students of AMU, its schools and its centres, wherever they live now.
The network is run by The Aligarian, an independent magazine about AMU, its alumni and Aligarh. It is not an official university body, and it does not replace the AMU alumni associations that already work in many cities. It sits alongside them, so you can stay in touch with Aligs between Sir Syed Day dinners. If you are new to the term, read why AMU students are called Aligs.
Who can join?
- AMU alumni from any faculty, hall or batch, including AMU schools and the Malappuram, Murshidabad and Kishanganj centres
- Current AMU students who want advice from seniors and alumni
- AMU teachers and staff, serving or retired
How to join in 3 steps
- Tap Join the WhatsApp group or Join on Telegram above. Use whichever app you check more often.
- Introduce yourself in one line: your name, your AMU course and year, and the city you live in.
- Sign up on the network directory so other Aligs in your city and field can find you. Your email is never shown, and you choose which details appear on your profile.
How to find Aligs near you
Searching for “Aligs near me” usually turns up scattered Facebook posts. A better route:
- Ask in the group. Post your city or area and ask who else is nearby. It is the fastest way to find Aligs for a meet-up or local help.
- Use the directory. Members of the Aligarian Network directory can be searched by city, batch and profession.
- Look for your city’s AMU alumni association. Many cities in India and abroad have one, and most celebrate Sir Syed Day every October. See our reports on the AMU Alumni Association in Mumbai and the AMU Old Students’ Association, Kerala.
What members share
- AMU news, results, admission dates and notices, with links to our full reports

- Help for students and new arrivals: hostels, travel to Aligarh and entrance preparation
Group etiquette
- Keep posts relevant to AMU, Aligs and the community.
- No spam, chain forwards or paid promotions without the admins’ permission.
- Respect privacy. Do not share members’ numbers or personal details outside the group.
- Disagree politely. The group works because people of every batch and background feel welcome.
