The Tragic Police-public Relations In The Country – The Second Angle

In a recent NCR programme on the public’s diminishing regard for the police, Chief Justice of India, Justice NV Ramana, stated that even in times of distress, people today refrain from approaching the police due to a lack of impartiality and the ruling system. The trust has declined significantly as a result of its close connection with the Khaki uniform.

The Chief Justice further stated that people have lost faith in police officers as a result of their corruption and excesses. “Not only that, but police officers have frequently reported being harassed following the government transition,” he added. According to the Chief Justice, the police should seek to cut their ties with the political class in order to reclaim social legitimacy and public trust. They should take a moral and ethical stance. This applies to all institutions.

“Police officers have failed to obey the rule book due to the lack of infrastructure and manpower, inhumane conditions at a low level, a lack of contemporary equipment, and questionable techniques of acquiring evidence,” the Chief Justice stated. The challenges affecting the law enforcement system are a lack of responsibility on the part of officers.

It is worth noting that the SSP Ghaziabad, Pawan Kumar, was suspended by the government last month. In this case, an SSP was suspended while still in office for the first time in the district. The grounds for his suspension are that he was unable to prevent rising crime. At the same time, his battle with BJP leaders is being cited as the primary reason, in addition to a lack of greater coordination with the general public.

It is believed to be a sense of belonging among the police and the citizens, but in this case, it is nowhere to be seen. Politicians generally regard them as their slaves, and if they refuse to do something at their command, then their fate is similar to that of Ghaziabad SSP Pawan Kumar. According to reports, he was suspended and humiliated as a result of some ruling party leaders’ complaints.

The police can do nothing about this. Certainly, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the country should take this into account as well. The dismissal of the SSP Ghaziabad is one example, while many police officials around the country are being forced to carry out political duties in order to keep their positions.

In fact, we continue to be unaware of the role of the police in regard to law enforcement agencies. The Indian Police has been granted limitless authority to protect us. Much like our soldiers are on duty 24/7 for border security, our police force is constantly prepared for interior security. The police are in charge of the country’s security and public order. It is the responsibility of the police to prevent all forms of crime in society.

People can make a police complaint at any time regarding their safety or any other severe issue. The public can request police assistance in defending themselves and filing a report. The police’s role and responsibility are to prevent crimes such as theft, murder, dacoity, and riots in society while also maintaining civil order. The police protect the nation’s resources and public spaces. It is the police’s responsibility to protect the lives of all civilians.

After all, despite the enormous rights granted by the Constitution, police departments have to become pawns in the hands of the state and follow their orders based on their abilities.

It is normal for them to modify their stance on the average man in such a situation. However, when the time comes for the politicians to conceal their faults, they very skillfully shrug them off. In such a circumstance, the only way out is for there to be some regulations and laws in the country’s largest assembly MP and for the judiciary to strictly supervise its compliance, and only then will the game of police as puppets for politicians end.
