Two AMU teachers made news outside the campus this week. Dr Mohd Adnan of the Department of Physics has won a Rs 14.36 lakh research grant from the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh (CSTUP), and Dr Mayuresh Kumar of the Department of Foreign Languages was part of the proceedings of the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi.
Rs 14.36 lakh for better solar cells
Dr Adnan’s project is titled “Fabrication Strategies and Studies of 2D/3D Perovskite Heterojunction and Mixed Halide Colloidal Nanoparticles for Optoelectronic and Photovoltaic Applications”. Put simply, the work will test different kinds of perovskite materials to make perovskite solar cells more efficient and longer lasting.
Dr Mohammad Shahid (FRSC) of the Department of Chemistry is the Co-Principal Investigator, so this is a Physics and Chemistry project together.

Dr Adnan came to AMU in 2024 with a strong record abroad. He held a Newton-Bhabha Fellowship at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, and then an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for postdoctoral research at the University of Münster in Germany. He still works as a Visiting Scientist at IPF Dresden.
Prof. Mohammad Sajjad Athar, Chairman of the Department of Physics, said grants like this would help build up the department’s advanced optical experimental facilities.
At Parliament for the BRICS forum
India hosted the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at Samvidhan Sadan in the Parliament House complex as part of its BRICS Presidency in 2026. The theme was “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development”, and delegations from 21 countries attended.
Dr Mayuresh Kumar used his language expertise to help the delegations talk to each other and keep communication clear during the discussions. The forum opened in the Central Hall with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the chair. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the BRICS parliamentarians, Dr Shashi Tharoor chaired one of the meetings, and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh was also present.
Prof. Aftab Alam, Dean of the Faculty of International Studies, congratulated Dr Kumar.
