AMU students can apply for central government scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), Uttar Pradesh government scholarships on scholarship.up.gov.in if they are eligible, and trust and donor scholarships routed through AMU’s Dean Students’ Welfare office. Research scholars receive fellowships such as GATE or UGC-JRF stipends through the university.
Who handles scholarships at AMU
The office of the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) coordinates financial aid at AMU. Its listed duties include arranging the disbursement of scholarships, stipends and other financial aid to students. Scholarship notices, including trust and donor schemes, are posted on the DSW pages of amu.ac.in.
Most government schemes are not decided by AMU. The student applies on the government portal, and the university’s job is to verify the application as the institution where the student is enrolled. If that verification is not completed within the portal’s window, the payment can be held up.

1. National Scholarship Portal schemes
The NSP is the Government of India’s single window for central and centrally sponsored scholarships. State welfare departments announced the opening of the portal for the 2026-27 pre-matric and post-matric schemes in August 2026.
AMU’s DSW office lists three NSP schemes for students with disabilities: the pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for students with disabilities, and the scholarship for top class education for students with disabilities. The DSW page says applications for these are accepted in October each year.
Other NSP schemes that university students commonly apply for include the post-matric scholarship for minority communities and the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College and University Students, which is based on Class 12 results and family income. Eligibility and income limits are set by each ministry and can change, so read the scheme guidelines on the portal before applying.
Why it matters: one NSP account holds all central applications, so keep the login and registered mobile number safe through all years of study.
2. Uttar Pradesh government scholarships
Uttar Pradesh runs its pre-matric and post-matric scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes through scholarship.up.gov.in. The schemes cover different categories, such as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities and the general category, and are run by the respective state welfare departments.
These schemes are meant for students domiciled in Uttar Pradesh. AMU’s DSW office has issued notices about the UP Government Scholarship in past years, and AMU, as an institution in the state, verifies applications from its enrolled students. Students from other states should check the scholarship portal of their own home state.
Why it matters: state timelines are strict, and an application not verified by the institution within the window may not be processed.

3. AMU trust and donor scholarships
Alongside government schemes, AMU notifies scholarships funded by trusts and donors. Notices posted by the DSW office have covered the Saifi Trust Scholarship, the Bharat Sewa Trust Scholarship and general donor scholarships. The DSW pages have also carried a notice and guidelines for a scholarship offered by the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The amount, number of awards and eligibility differ from scheme to scheme and from year to year. Check the latest DSW notice for each one, and do not rely on figures quoted by unofficial websites.
Best for: students who are not covered by a government scheme or who need support beyond it.
4. Fellowships for research scholars
AMU’s Guide to Admissions 2026-27 says admitted candidates who have qualified GATE or JRF, or who hold a scholarship from a national funding agency, will receive it if they meet that scheme’s conditions. The Guide adds that payment depends on the university receiving the grant from bodies such as AICTE, UGC or DBT.
In practice, research scholars should keep their qualifying certificates, award letters and joining reports in order. Delays in paperwork at the department level can delay stipend release.
5. Support for students with disabilities
Besides the NSP disability schemes, AMU offers fee concessions for candidates with benchmark disabilities. Under the 2026-27 Guide, PwBD applicants paid Rs 100 as the test fee or processing charge, and selected PwBD candidates paid Rs 100 as admission charges. This concession does not apply to fellowship holders or to seats under Self Finance, NRI or Foreign National categories.
Documents to keep ready
- Aadhaar linked to an active bank account in the student’s name
- Income certificate and, where needed, caste or minority certificate issued by the competent authority
- Domicile certificate for state schemes
- Previous year marksheets and the current fee receipt
- AMU enrolment number and faculty or department details

Practical tips
- Apply early in the window. Portals slow down close to the last date.
- Use the same spelling of your name across Aadhaar, bank account and marksheets.
- After submitting, track the institute verification status and follow up with your department or the DSW office if it stays pending.
- Renewal applications are needed every year for most schemes, even if you got the scholarship before.
- Read the DSW notice board on amu.ac.in regularly for new trust and donor schemes.
