NTPC Green Energy’s chief executive was on the ZHCET stage as the engineering college hosted an international conference on “Sustainability in Design, Engineering and Architecture”. The event ran under the banner ZHCON 2026 and drew papers from almost every branch the college teaches.
Who was on the dais
- Presided: Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon
- Chief Guest: Mr Sarit Maheshwari, CEO, NTPC Green Energy
- Guest of Honour: Prof. V. K. Rattan, former Vice-Chancellor, GNA University
- Also spoke: Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohd Mohsin Khan; Prof. Mohd Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, Principal, ZHCET
- Convener: Prof. Sharmin Khan
What the speakers said
Mr Maheshwari spoke about renewable energy and green technology in India’s energy transition and told the young researchers in the hall that the clean energy push needs their work, along with investment and closer ties between industry and campuses.
Prof. Naima Khatoon said universities have to take an active part in tackling environmental and technological problems through research and professional education, and that academic work should lead to answers that are both green and socially useful. Prof. Mohsin Khan spoke on climate change, environmental damage and energy security, and the need for research that cuts across disciplines.

Prof. Rattan wanted sustainability built into engineering teaching itself, not treated as an add-on. Prof. Mohd Hasan, whose appointment as Dean was announced on 30 October (our report on his appointment), talked about joint research on energy efficiency, sustainable materials and resilient infrastructure. Principal Prof. Muzammil said sustainability now has to be considered across the whole life cycle of buildings, infrastructure and industrial products.
What the papers covered
Contributions came from Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Computer Engineering, Architecture and Artificial Intelligence. Sessions dealt with:
- Sustainable engineering design and green buildings
- Renewable energy and energy efficiency
