The AMU Students’ Union campaign got noisy on Thursday. Students protested at the election office in Union Hall over where some women students are allowed to vote, a vice-president candidate said her Instagram account had been taken down, and a remark by a presidential candidate to a teacher went round campus. Amar Ujala reported all three on 30 October 2026.
Protest over voting rights on campus
According to the report, students protested at the election office on Thursday, saying fourth-year undergraduate women living in Begum Azizun Nisa Hall and Indira Gandhi Hall had not been given the right to vote on the university campus. Slogans were raised, and the women students then sat on a dharna, demanding that polling for them be held on campus.
Yasir Fahad told the paper the students’ question was simple: they are not Women’s College students, so under what rule can they be asked to vote there? They study on the main campus and live in its halls, and want to cast their vote there.

Nashra Naeem’s Instagram account
Nashra Naeem, a candidate for vice-president, said her Instagram account had been suspended. She alleged it was reported to Meta 500 to 600 times before the action. She told Amar Ujala this would not break her resolve and that she remained in the race.
“Service provider” remark
A comment by presidential candidate Abdul Wahid also became a talking point. Amar Ujala reported that he told a teacher that the teacher was a “service provider”, appointed only for the students. Some students voiced their displeasure at the election office in Union Hall after the remark.
Amina Irshad: “University should not become a cantonment”
Presidential candidate Amina Irshad, a fourth-year research scholar in the Department of Economics, told the paper the university should not turn into a cantonment and students should not live in fear of the police baton. If elected, she said, a safe campus for women and better placements for everyone would be among her priorities. She is the third woman in AMUSU history to contest for president. We profiled her earlier: Amina Irshad in the race for president.
