Hostel lobbies are only now naming their candidates, and the AMU Students’ Union election has already reached Civil Lines police station. A student leader, Mohammad Raiyan, has alleged he was beaten up, threatened with a pistol and robbed over election rivalry, and police have registered an FIR, Amar Ujala reported on 22 October 2026.

What the complaint alleges

According to Raiyan’s complaint, as reported by Amar Ujala, the incident took place around 7 pm on 20 October at a hotel in Shahab Bagh where he was having tea.

  • He has alleged that a group of five, three named and two unidentified, came there, abused him and attacked him over the election.
  • One of them allegedly pointed a pistol at him and tried to fire twice.
  • He was then allegedly hit with the butt of the pistol and punched and kicked.
  • He has also alleged that his silver chain was snatched and that he was threatened with death.
  • The complaint says police were informed on 112.

The FIR was registered on Wednesday, 21 October. Among those named is an aspirant for the vice-president’s post, the paper said. CO Sarvam Singh told Amar Ujala that a case had been registered and the matter was being investigated. The allegations have not been tested and no arrests were reported.

Lobbies begin naming candidates

Here is where the field stands, going by Amar Ujala’s report:

  • President: GBS lobby has named Mohammad Zohar. Nauman Ashraf’s name is also being discussed, though no formal announcement has been made.
  • Secretary: Azamgarh lobby has named Mohammad Hamdan.
  • Vice-president: two aspirants have put their names forward.
  • Ghazipur lobby has named Saqib as its candidate.

Several lobbies have not declared yet, so expect hostel meetings and canvassing to get busier from here. For the full timeline, see our report on the AMU Students’ Union election 2026 schedule, and on the night security checks at AMU’s gates ahead of the polls.
