For the 2026-27 session, Aligarh Muslim University fills most undergraduate, diploma, school and MBA seats through its own admission tests, uses CUET (UG) scores for a separate list of courses, and admits medical students through NEET (UG). Applications are made online through amucontrollerexams.com, where the official Guide to Admissions 2026-27 is published.
Where the official information lives
The Controller of Examinations runs admissions, and its website, amucontrollerexams.com, is the only place to rely on for forms, dates and results. The General Admission page links to the Guide to Admissions 2026-27, the online application portal (oaps.amuonline.ac.in), the syllabus of admission tests, answer keys and results.
The Guide is a long PDF of rules. It covers eligibility, reservation and quotas, test centres, internal and external candidates, and the closing date for admissions. Read it in full before applying, because AMU says it gives no relaxation in the last date for applying.

Courses with AMU’s own admission tests
AMU announced its 2026-27 test schedule in late January 2026, and registration opened on 1 February 2026, according to a Careers360 report of 30 January 2026. The tests were pen and paper exams held in April and June 2026.
| Test date (2026) | Programmes |
|---|---|
| 12 April | BA (Hons) Arts and Social Sciences, BA (Hons) International Studies, BSc (Hons) Science and Life Sciences |
| 19 April | BSc (Hons) Agriculture, BCom (Hons), BBA |
| 26 April | BTech and BArch, Diploma in Engineering, Senior Secondary School Certificate (Science, Humanities and Commerce), Bridge Course, BA LLB |
| 7 June | MBA (all branches), MSW, Master of Public Health, BEd |
Some smaller programmes use a Departmental Test, which is held only in Aligarh. Other courses are filled on the basis of qualifying examination marks. For these, the Guide set 22 June 2026 as the deadline to upload a self-attested marksheet, and forms without it were rejected.
Courses through CUET (UG)
A separate group of AMU courses is filled through CUET (UG) scores. The official list sits under the heading “Courses offered through CUET” on the Controller’s General Admission page. Coaching portals that summarised it for 2026 named BA (Hons) and BSc (Hons) programmes in certain subjects, BVoc courses in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and BSc (Hons) Community Science.
The Guide sets out four steps for this route:
- Register and apply for the course on the CUET portal, cuet.samarth.ac.in.
- Take CUET (UG) 2026 in the domain, general or language sections the course needs.
- Fill the AMU online form on amucontrollerexams.com and quote the CUET application number.
- If shortlisted, register for and attend AMU’s counselling.
Skipping the third step is a common mistake. A good CUET score alone does not put a candidate on AMU’s merit list.

Medical, dental and Unani courses
Admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical programmes across India is based on NEET (UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency, and AMU follows the same rule. The Guide refers to the NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin for disability certification of MBBS and BDS applicants, and the Controller’s site carries a separate “NEET PRE-TIB, 2026” notice for Unani medicine.
How to apply, step by step
- Download the Guide to Admissions for the session and check eligibility for each course.
- Create an account on the online application portal and fill one form per course or test.
- Pay the test fee online. AMU says a bank deduction is not enough; the payment must show on the application dashboard.
- Choose test centres. AMU may allot a different centre from the one preferred.
- Download the admit card. Entry to a test centre is barred without a proper admit card with a photograph.
- Check results and counselling schedules on the same website, then complete document verification and fee payment.
Test fees and processing charges are non-refundable and cannot be carried forward. Candidates with disabilities (PwBD) paid Rs 100 as the test fee for 2026-27, and the Outstanding Sportsperson category needed an extra processing charge of Rs 150.
Test centres outside Aligarh
Admission tests are not held only in Aligarh. For 2026-27, the BTech and BArch test had centres in Aligarh, Lucknow, Patna, Srinagar, Kozhikode and Kolkata. The Diploma and school tests had the widest spread, including Meerut, Imphal, Rampur, Kishanganj and Murshidabad. BA (Hons) and BSc (Hons) added a centre in Khanapara (Meghalaya) or Guwahati (Assam).
Internal and external candidates
AMU reserves a share of seats for internal candidates. An internal candidate is one who passed the qualifying examination from AMU as a regular student, not more than three academic years before admission. Students who took AMU exams as private or distance candidates do not count as internal. Internal applicants must upload proof, or they may be treated as external.
Off-campus centres
Some courses run at more than one location under a single admission process. For 2026-27, AMU Centre Malappuram (Kerala) and AMU Centre Murshidabad (West Bengal) offered BA LLB, BBA, BEd and MBA, and AMU Centre Kishanganj (Bihar) offered BEd and MBA. A student cannot change the study centre after the closing date for admissions.
Other routes: sports, talent, NRI and PhD
AMU admits a limited number of students under the Outstanding Sportsperson and Debater and Talent categories after trials. These candidates must still meet the minimum General category test score. Foreign nationals and NRIs apply under a separate category with its own schedule. PhD admissions have their own notices, eligibility lists and answer keys on the same website.
Key dates for 2026-27 and the next cycle
The Guide fixed 31 August 2026 as the closing date for admissions, and seats falling vacant after that are not filled. The 2026-27 cycle opened on 1 February 2026. No 2027-28 notice was on the Controller’s website when this was published, so applicants should watch the site from January 2027. AMU news and notices are tracked in our AMU Updates section, and preparation tips are in Students’ Corner.
