Police in Aligarh have registered a case after an Aligarh Muslim University teacher who has served as assistant proctor complained that he was threatened over the phone, Amar Ujala reported on 11 October 2026.
What the complaint says
- Who: Dr Mohammad Nayyar Rahman, assistant professor in the Department of Commerce, who has also served as assistant proctor.
- When: At about 1:30 pm on 9 October 2026.
- What: A caller allegedly said he would come to meet him with another person, referred to his work as assistant proctor and threatened harm to him and his property.
- Recording: Dr Rahman alleges the call was recorded without his permission and shared on Instagram to create fear. He has asked for protection for himself and his family.
Police action
Civil Lines police registered a case against two residents of the Civil Lines area under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers criminal intimidation. Circle Officer Sarvam Singh confirmed the case, and Sub-Inspector Vikram Singh is investigating.
Background
The complaint comes days after a 19-day student protest on campus ended.
