The programme

  • Theme: “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”
  • Organised under: Dr Ataullah Fahad, Chairperson, Department of Ilmul Amraz
  • Speaker: Prof. Shah Alam, Chairperson, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts
  • Audience: About 30 students, with teaching and non-teaching staff

What students heard

Prof. Shah Alam spoke about how heavy mobile phone use and overthinking affect mental health. He gave practical suggestions for psychological well-being and said that a planned study timetable and better time management can reduce academic stress and help students balance studies with personal life.

The session also stressed healthy daily habits and the value of listening to people’s own experiences of mental health. Dr Fahad presented Prof. Shah Alam with a certificate of appreciation for his work on mental health awareness.

Need help?

Students who are struggling can speak to a teacher, their hall provost or a counsellor. The national Tele-MANAS helpline, 14416, offers free mental health support in several languages.
