AMUSU election campaigning has reached halls and hostels, with women students more active this time, Amar Ujala reported.AMU law student Amjad Ali said AMU students back the Jamia agitation and may send a bus to Jamia and BHU.Former student Syed Kaif Hasan said the fight for students' unions will continue until they are restored.

The AMU Students’ Union election campaign has now reached the residential halls and hostels. On the same day, two Aligarh voices said AMU students are backing the push to restore students’ unions at Jamia Millia Islamia and BHU. Amar Ujala reported both on 24 October 2026.

Campaigning over tea in the halls

According to the paper, candidates have stepped up their contact drive. Students who plan to contest are moving around campus with supporters, meeting voters at different spots and pitching their promises. A lot of this is happening over tea, where campaign plans are also being worked out.

  • Women students have become more active in the race and are reaching out to other women students for support, the report said.
  • Its photo showed Gayyum Hussain, a candidate for Court member, campaigning on campus (name as spelt in the Hindi report).
  • The paper expects the campaign to get louder as polling comes closer.

“Aligarh is a factory of student leaders”

In a separate report, Amar Ujala said the demand for restoring students’ unions is travelling from Aligarh to Jamia and BHU, with AMU student leaders supporting the student agitation at Jamia.

  • Amjad Ali, an AMU law student, said AMU students have stood with Jamia students since the first day of their movement. If needed, he said, a bus will be sent from Aligarh to Jamia and then on to BHU.
  • Syed Kaif Hasan, a former AMU student, called Aligarh a factory that prepares student leaders. He described it as a fight for student democracy across the country and said every university and college needs a union so that students’ problems get solved. The struggle, he said, will continue until unions are restored.

Earlier in this election

The run-up has not been entirely smooth. Read our report on the FIR filed after a student leader alleged assault at Shahab Bagh, and on the debate over whether AMU will get its first woman union president.
