Key takeaways
Mohd Intkhab said AMU would protest any bulldozer demolition of a Muslim or Dalit home in UP and speak to CM Yogi Adityanath eye to eye.Noman Ashraf questioned former VC Prof. Tariq Mansoor's tenure and demanded Bharat Ratna for Sir Syed and cabinet seats for AMU centre students.Polling for the AMUSU 2026-27 election is on Thursday, 5 November.

The last round of speeches before Thursday’s AMU Students’ Union poll drew a packed Students’ Union Hall, and the candidates for the top posts spent much of their time on issues far beyond the campus: bulldozer demolitions, lynching, CAA and NRC, and the wars in Palestine, Sudan and Iran. Amar Ujala reported the speeches in its Aligarh edition on 4 November 2026.

Intkhab: “AMU will speak up”

Presidential candidate Mohd Intkhab drew the sharpest line. According to Amar Ujala, he said that if the house of any Muslim or Dalit in Uttar Pradesh is pulled down by a bulldozer, a voice of protest will rise from AMU, and the students will speak to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath “eye to eye”. He compared bulldozer action to an “Israel model”.

He named Mohsin, Pehlu Khan, Akhlaq and Tabrez, and said lynching cannot be the fate of Muslims. Other points from his speech, as reported:

  • FIRs are being used to scare students and minorities.
  • He opposed the Uniform Civil Code and called interference in Waqf properties unacceptable.
  • The economic boycott of any community is an attack on democracy.
  • He called it unfortunate that BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali was called “kathmulla” in Parliament.
  • He spoke of the cases of Asifa in Kathua, Nirbhaya, Bilkis Bano, the woman doctor in Kolkata, and the women from Hathras and Unnao, and said rape culture had grown despite the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao slogan.

Intkhab’s own campaign promises are covered in our earlier piece, Mohd Intkhab’s pitch for President.

Noman Ashraf goes after the Tariq Mansoor years

Mohd Noman Ashraf, a PhD scholar in History, said attempts were being made to label Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid as terrorists when no court has given a verdict against them. He spoke of mosques being demolished and homes being bulldozed, and said his heart goes out to the oppressed in Palestine, Sudan and Iran.

Closer home, he turned on the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor. Amar Ujala quoted him as saying there was police action on campus during that period, with pellet guns fired at students, beatings and arrests, which he said he cannot forget. If elected, he said, he would seek an account of corruption and nepotism over the past eight years.

He also made two specific demands:

  • Bharat Ratna for Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
  • Seats for students of the AMU centres at Kishanganj, Malappuram and Murshidabad in the union cabinet, with the cabinet size raised from 10 to 13.

His full manifesto is in Noman Ashraf’s manifesto for President.

Sharjeel Iqbal on AMU land

Another presidential candidate, Sharjeel Iqbal, kept it short. He said no one would be allowed to occupy AMU land, and that if needed, “not one but thousands of Jauhars” would come out of the university.

What happens next

Polling for the 2026-27 union is on Thursday, 5 November. Nineteen candidates are in the race for the three top posts: nine for President, seven for Vice-President and three for Honorary Secretary. Amar Ujala’s report covers only some of the speakers; it does not say what the other candidates said in their final speeches.

For a side-by-side look at every candidate’s promises, read what every President, Vice-President and Secretary candidate promises. The Aligarian does not support any candidate.
