The AMU Nurses Association petitioned the Allahabad High Court over posts, promotions, MACP and pay issues at JNMC and the Trauma Centre. The nurses must file a detailed representation with the Vice-Chancellor within three weeks. The VC has two months from then to pass a reasoned order after hearing the association.

The Allahabad High Court has asked the AMU Vice-Chancellor to decide, within two months, a long list of service grievances raised by nurses at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital and the New Emergency and Trauma Centre. The order was reported on 7 November 2026.

Who went to court, and what they asked for

The petition was filed by the Aligarh Muslim University Nurses Association and heard by Justice Manju Rani Chauhan. Most of what the nurses want comes down to staff numbers and stalled careers.

  • More sanctioned posts in the nursing cadre at JNMC Hospital and the Trauma Centre
  • Filling of sanctioned posts that are lying vacant
  • Filling of the vacant post of Nursing Superintendent
  • Release of a seniority list and promotions for eligible staff
  • Benefits under the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) scheme
  • Settlement of pay fixation and grade pay issues

What the court ordered

The court did not rule on the demands themselves. During the hearing, the university said it was willing to consider a representation from the nurses, and the order builds on that.

  • The association has three weeks to submit a detailed representation to the Vice-Chancellor.
  • The Vice-Chancellor must give the association a proper hearing.
  • A reasoned order has to be passed within two months of receiving the representation, unless there is a legal bar.

So the ball now sits with the office of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon. If both deadlines are used in full, the nurses should have a written answer by around the end of January 2027.

The medical college has been busy on other fronts too. Read our report on AligEyeCon 2026 at JNMC.
