Who can vote in AMUSU and who votes in WCSU

The Chief Election Officer, Prof. Javed Talib, said on 3 November that every eligible woman student has the right to vote and none is being denied it. As per his clarification:

  • Main campus students, men and women, vote in the AMUSU election.
  • Women students in professional and co-educational postgraduate courses on the main campus vote in the AMUSU election.
  • Women’s College students (BA, BSc and BCom) vote in the Women’s College Students’ Union (WCSU) election.
  • Fourth-year undergraduate women who attend classes in faculties under the new four-year system are still admitted to Women’s College, so they vote from Women’s College for WCSU and the AMU Court.

If you are not sure where you vote, check with your faculty or the election office before polling day.

What to carry

  • Your AMU identity card for the current session. No one without valid identity proof for the current session is allowed into the polling booth.
  • Know your faculty, since booths are arranged faculty-wise.
  • Leave campaign badges, pamphlets and posters behind. No propaganda is allowed on polling day.

Where to vote: polling booths by faculty

AMU has set up 13 polling booths for the Students’ Union election, one for each faculty or group of faculties. Find your faculty below and go to the venue next to it.

In the Faculty of Social Sciences, boys vote at the faculty building and girls vote at the Department of Fine Arts. If you are unsure of your booth, ask your department office before 9 am.

Who you will vote for

Each voter elects:

  • President: one vote, from 9 candidates
  • Vice-President: one vote, from 7 candidates
  • Honorary Secretary: one vote, from 3 candidates
  • Cabinet members: up to 10, from 46 candidates
  • University Court member: from the candidates of your faculty

Not sure who stands for what? Read what every President, Vice-President and Secretary candidate promises.

How voting works, step by step

  1. Reach your faculty’s polling booth between 9 am and 5 pm and show your identity card.
  2. The polling officer checks your name and issues a voting slip.
  3. You receive separate ballot papers for the central panel, the cabinet and the Court member.
  4. Mark your choice on each ballot in private. Do not show your ballot to anyone.
  5. Put each ballot in the box for that post. The polling officer will guide you to the right box.

The WCSU polling-day SOP issued by its Chief Election Officer, for example, sets out five ballot papers (three for the central panel, one for eight cabinet members and one for the Court member) and five ballot boxes, one for each post. AMUSU voters should follow the instructions of the polling officer at their booth.

Dos and don’ts on polling day

Do Don’t
Carry your current AMU ID card Enter the booth without valid ID
Follow the polling officer’s directions Carry or hand out campaign material
Vote in secret and fold your ballot Click photos of your ballot or the booth
Report any problem to the polling officer Accept food or gifts from campaigns (only water is allowed)
Leave the booth area after voting Crowd the booth or block other voters

Candidates are also jointly responsible for cleaning up the campus, especially polling areas, within 48 hours of polling. Breaking the code of conduct can lead to a candidate’s nomination being cancelled.

Emergency numbers on polling day

The Proctor’s Office issued a notice (D.No. 3737/Proc., dated 28 October 2026) with these numbers for ambulance and medical emergencies:

  • University Health Scheme (UHE): 0571 2700920, Extn. 4063
